My Toy...
1957 210 Two door Sedan Six cylinder - Automatic Black and White with Gray Interior 39,000 miles

October 20, 2006.
Well, we have a renewed start on the 57. It is now running but only
by feeding gas into the carburetor. The only things replaced to get
it running were points, condenser, and plug wires. The tank was full
of gas from 1978 and smelled like paint thinner. We drained the tank
only to find black tar in the bottom of the tank. Off came the tank.
The pick up tube and gauge float were trash. The tank was taken to a
radiator shop but they wouldn't touch it. Well, a new tank was
ordered as well as the tank fittings, pickup, and float assembly.
This work will start this week. With a little luck, it should be running
by the end of October.
Mid November - It started and runs like a dream. The new tank and
fittings went on without any problems. The six cylinder popped right
to life and settled down to a smooth idle. While still on jack
stands, I put it into gear and let the drive train start working.
Brakes didn't want to work very well but, in time, held pretty good.
There is some fluid dripping from behind the master cylinder. A
master cylinder rebuild is in order. I plan to rebuild the brake
cylinders at the same time.
Thanksgiving 2006. Started right up and cruised from storage to the house.
Washed it and polished a little bit of the front end chrome. Took it
back to storage that evening.
July 2007. The garage is just about cleaned out enough to bring the
Chevy to the house. I can't wait to let it reside about 15 feet from
where I sleep!
Thanksgiving
2007. It's here and running like a dream. Now it is time to start
the detail work.
