1960 Bugeye Sprite

Another Toy...

1960 Austin Healey Sprite
948 cc - 4 speed
Primer gray

The Austin Healey Sprite, also known as a Bugeye Sprite because of its fixed bubble head lights, is now in storage.  I plan to use parts from my 72 MG Midget to use a donor for parts.  I will use the 1275 motor and the 4 speed from the Midget.  The rest of the Bugeye will remain pretty much stock.  I may do a forward tilt front end.  This will give you a Word file showing the instructions for making this modification.

I have had the car since 1982 in the shape you see it today.  I have stored it inside a garage since then.  I first found the car in 1974, also in garage storage, in it's original light blue color. That owner disassembled the car and painted the grey color sometime between 1974 and 1982.  He sold it to me after something fell out of his garage rafters onto the bonnet and after the 948 engine suffered damage from a shop fire at the engine shop.  The engine was not in the burned area but the heat damaged the original SU carbs.  The original engine and transmission are with the car.

The previous owner bought many new trim parts for the car.    New exhaust, new hub caps, new top, light assemblies, and much more.  The seats have been recovered in a brown vinyl with black piping.  My intent was to soda blast the entire body, paint it British Racing Green, adapt the bonnet to a front tilt (see the download link above), rebuild the MG 1275 motor and install it with the MG synchromesh transmission.

I've been offered $4000 for both cars and all my parts.  At times I think I would take it.  I would have to consider this offer if made again.
